Lucy Verster

CEO

Lucy was born in Potchefstroom, where she matriculated. She obtained her BA Communications degree at the North West University’s PUK campus. There she specialised in English 3 as a major subject. She became the marketing manager for the Riverwalk Mall at a young age but her heart led her towards education. She completed her PGCE diploma through UNISA while working.

Once this was completed she started teaching at a Primary School in Rustenburg. She was teaching languages there for different InterSen students for seven years. Whilst gaining experience she completed her honours degree in Educational Leadership and Management.

With all her experience and educational knowledge, she saw that children really struggles to cope with some language aspects – hence Kahuna Kidz was born.

Lucy is a lover of languages and teaching it to young minds.

Language Limits, Limits Life!

Jana Nortier

ONLINE DRAMA AMBASSADOR

After completing two Drama degrees at the University of Stellenbosch and Tshwane University of Technology, her professional journey began in 2004 as a teacher at a private school in Johannesburg. But her passion for the entertainment industry and dramatic arts could not be silenced and she made my peace with the fact of her combined endeavour. Whether it was her first big break in the “macchiato” Wimpy commercial or her six year role on Villa Rosa where her character, Sussie Koekemoer, became a household name that sealed her fate as a performer – her journey would always include her expertise as an actor and voice artist.

She continued to tutor and teach privately throughout her career and as a creative she also visited her passion for writing on numerous projects – scripting and conceptualizing for TV, film and theatre or simply writing and directing school productions. Her leap into the international teaching industry kicked off in 2015 in South Korea. As a Drama teacher in a foreign country she broadened her horizons and developed her skill set even more. No matter what project or opportunity she takes on, she always looks for the chance to explore new avenues and learn something new that she can apply to her work. She’s an actress, an educator, a writer and a creator. She is Jana Nortier.

Language Structures and Conventions

Caps is very congested and a lot of learners fall behind because of a lack of basic English Language structures and conventions that are not taught at school level or completely left out of the school curriculum, in turn leaving us with struggling learners. Language is an extremely important way of interacting with people, especially in the 21st Century and with a world of many cultures and languages, English is widely accepted as the most common method of communication. Learning to use the English language effectively will enable learners to acquire knowledge, to express themselves, to interact with others and to manage their world in a global community. By having a sound knowledge of English will allow learners the freedom to communicate on a face to face basis or through many media platforms available.

The ability to speak, read, and write English is a vital skill which our learners are struggling to competently do. In the lessons we will look at the obstacles most high school learners face, spelling, language rules, reading as well as the correct writing format of transactional texts and essays. The lessons will be set in such a way to take care and work on everyday errors learners make in an English classroom, as well as to create new ways for them to learn and understand the language as a whole. Learners will explore the features of poetry, stories, visual literacy, transactional writing texts, language comprehension, verbal communication and more.
